
Did you know that men can go through a process during midlife that is similar to what women experience during menopause? Though not near as well known as menopause, andropause or “male menopause” affects a high percentage of men, although unlike menopause, it does not affect every man. The symptoms of andropause can be similar to the symptoms that women experience during menopause. Common symptoms of andropause include mood swings, weight gain, low libido, fatigue, and erectile dysfunction, among others. These symptoms are caused by a drop in testosterone levels. Although testosterone levels drop in all men as they age, in some men, they drop enough to trigger the onset of symptoms that can interfere with health and quality of life. There is, however, much that can be done to manage symptoms of andropause while improving health and wellbeing and decreasing the risk of disease at the same time. Read more…
