
Indigestion is a common health complaint, especially common after large holiday meals or when eating hurriedly on the go. Symptoms can be uncomfortable and unpleasant, particularly the regurgitation of food, which causes the sensation of acid backing into the throat or mouth and leading to a bitter taste. It can also be alarming, when heartburn can feel similar to pain expected from a heart attack, coming from the stomach into the chest and sometimes even felt in the throat. Nausea, fullness or bloating, and abdominal pain are also common symptoms of acid reflux. While these may be enough for someone to seek help, acid reflux should not be ignored, as serious health problems can develop as a result, including potentially life-threatening conditions.
